You’ve Got Mail
Unsure of the best day to send a marketing email to optimize performance? You aren’t alone.
Marketers and business owners discuss this topic ad nauseam. While opinions will vary until the end of time, the proof is in the pudding … I mean the numbers.
According to a recent Hubspot survey (October 2023-May 2024), Tuesdays are the best day to send emails for highest performance.
This makes perfect sense when you think about it. Folks are knee deep in emails when they log in Monday morning and usually spend the day catching up from (hopefully) being off from work over the weekend. Tuesday arrives, and people have a fresh energy to check out new products, information, events, etc. They’re ready to absorb something new and exciting, so it’s time to wow them!
Email performance drops off steadily from Wednesday through Sunday as people’s energy, time and attention diminishes each day. Poor Sunday!
However, if you have a specific day of the week that works for you, by all means. If your Fun Friday email is a banger and performs well, stick to it.
Consistency is key with marketing emails.
A general best practice is to avoid sending marketing emails every day. I can’t tell you how many brands I love and buy from that insist on sending at least one email per day. It drives me bananas! Some brands let you opt into a weekly email, sales emails only or a cadence that works for you. Brands that require you to be all in or all out are missing the point. Personalization is key, so let’s enable folks to choose the frequency that works best for them.
Some people want to soak up every bit of content you send them (no matter the frequency), but others prefer to hear from you once per week at most. Take the time to get to know your audience and what works best for them.
